What Nourishes You?
I ask this question quite frequently to others.
Last week, I addressed the question to myself. I pondered the question for awhile. I realized I needed to tune into my heart, soul and body and the answers presented themselves in real time experiences:
*the AWE of stunning rock formations in Colorado Springs
*Extended time away with my best friend
*A nap on a Saturday afternoon
*Hot coffee and my journal to welcome the day
*Sitting in front of a fireplace and sipping a drink
*Waking up to a snowy, winter wonderland (in Spring)
*Hiking in the mountains
*Listening to the cello
*Prayer
*Soul talk and sharing dreams
*NO schedule
*A fresh, healthy smoothie
Some nourish my soul, some nourish my spirit and some nourish my body. All are necessary for a healthy, thriving life.
I enjoy nourishing others and feel called to pour out to the world through my work, my motherhood and my daily walk. But as I say to my colleagues:
We must drink as we pour.
A tiny drop of water every now and then, does not fill a well. Consistent “appointments” for nourishment keep the well replenished.
It will be overflowing when others need a drink. It will provide fuel for me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace challenges that require extra energy. It will cleanse my heart when I feel like I fail.
It will be life giving.
Every week, I jot down in my calendar: What nourishes you?
My gentle reminder.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. Psalm 23:2
